Yiwu's 'Second-Generation' Merchants Reinvent Small Commodities With Brands, Tech and Design
A China Youth Daily report on October 27 spotlights Yiwu's 'second-generation' merchants who are transforming the city's traditional small-commodity trade by embedding brand, technology, design and culture. The 'Xianuoduoji' outdoor brand founded by an 85-after entrepreneur Lu Jimin now sells tents to more than 10 countries after he shifted from copycat OEM to self-developed lightweight all-terrain tents. Another young merchant Ji Ruixin turned her family's silver-wholesale business into a culturally designed silver-jewelry brand sold via e-commerce. The young merchants, described as hardworking, innovative and united, are upgrading Yiwu from 'make-to-sample' to original creation, leaning on new tools and global vision.
