China AI Ambition on Show as DeepSeek Raises 100 Billion Yuan, Open-Sources DeepInfer
Economic Daily commented October 26 that DeepSeek's roughly 100 billion yuan new financing round, its open-sourcing of the DeepInfer inference framework, and a U.S. Homeland Security ban together show China's AI ambition. DeepSeek raised the target twice to about 100 billion yuan, taking two rounds this year to roughly 150 billion yuan with a pre-money valuation near 500 billion yuan and laying groundwork for a STAR Market IPO; investors include CATL and Tencent across chips, autos, new energy and internet. The U.S. ban on federal use, extended to third-party derivatives, reflects anxiety over DeepSeek's open models penetrating software supply chains. Open-sourcing DeepInfer lets firms deploy near-official inference on NVIDIA or Huawei Ascend at lower cost, growing an ecosystem rather than a walled garden.
