2026 Wuhan Forum Urges 'Anti-Quick-Build' Quality Over Speed in Smart, NEV Sector
The 2026 China (Wuhan) Intelligent and New-Energy Vehicle Forum, themed against 'quick-build' practices and for high-quality development, was held on October 26. CAAM chief engineer Ye Shengji said China built a complete modern auto system, with 23 million-plus vehicles produced and sold in the first three quarters, 12.5 million NEVs, and over 8.2 million exports, moving from a big auto country toward a strong one. He warned that of more than 500 new models launched in the first half, fewer than a third were wholly new developments, and virtual simulation cannot replace real validation. A new MIIT-led draft rule requires environment-adaptability validation of at least one year with 'two winters and one summer' and reliability mileage of no less than 30,000 km.
