At the 2026 AI Open Computing Conference in Beijing (October 17), the BAAI-led FlagOS community released FlagOS 2.2, expanding support for diverse AI chips and frontier large models. The stack now covers 21 AI chip makers, letting different chips share model adaptation, operator optimization and system tuning via one open software layer, lowering repeated development cost. BAAI vice president Lin Yonghua said competition has moved from model parameters to underlying system software - operators, compilers, communication and runtime - and the core challenge is cross-platform compatibility across the booming variety of GPUs, NPUs and CPUs.
