Chinese Cars Surge 125% in Netherlands as European Brands Lose Ground
Chinese cars are selling explosively in the Netherlands, with 18,175 units sold in the first nine months of 2026, up nearly 125% year on year, according to Dutch media AD.NL reported October 26. China jumped to the fifth-best-selling origin, from ninth a year earlier, while German, French and Korean brands fell 10%, 5% and 10% respectively. The Dutch car traders association Bovag credited strong price-performance, standard equipment that European brands charge extra for, and fast charging and battery quality, plus partnerships with local dealers by BYD, Leapmotor and MG. With over 40% of Dutch new cars now fully electric and the share recently above 50%, Chinese makers are major contributors.
