Beijing Unveils Hydrogen Plan: 10,000 Fuel-Cell Vehicles and 40+ Refueling Stations by 2030
Beijing's economy and information technology authority has issued its Hydrogen Energy Industry Development Implementation Plan (2026-2030), aiming to promote more than 10,000 fuel-cell vehicles and build over 40 hydrogen refueling stations by 2030, with a city-wide hydrogen industry chain surpassing 40 billion yuan and driving the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region past 100 billion yuan. The plan calls for scaled applications in green chemicals and combined heat-and-power, building an autonomous, economical and green-safe regional hydrogen supply chain. Analysts said the move strengthens Beijing's bet on fuel-cell technology as a complement to battery electric and plug-in hybrids, broadening the decarbonization path for heavy and commercial transport where pure batteries remain challenging.
