CPCA Estimates October NEV Retail at 1.07 Million Units With 66.9% Penetration, Gasoline Cars Sold at Half the Volume
On October 23 the China Passenger Car Association released its October market estimate: full-month narrow-sense passenger-car retail is expected at 1.6 million units, of which new-energy vehicles are estimated at 1.07 million and conventional gasoline cars about 530,000. NEV volume thus exceeds gasoline by roughly two times, with retail penetration projected at 66.9%, down marginally from September's record 67.0% in a normal seasonal move. By week, National Day holiday orders concentrated into the second week's deliveries, while the fifth week's month-end push is seen lifting daily retail to about 79,000 units. CPCA noted the overall market is still bottoming, with year-on-year declines near 29%, and most major automakers had completed less than 60% of their annual targets by the first three quarters, hinting at a possible year-end promotion window.
