On October 20 Volkswagen China announced that the global-first mass-production model built on its new CMP platform, the ID.ERA5X, rolled off the line at SAIC Volkswagen's plant on October 16. CMP is a highly flexible new-energy platform compatible with both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains. A second model, the ID.AURAL5, is scheduled for later this year. The milestone marks Volkswagen's deepening local R&D and production in China as it races to match the pace of domestic EV competitors.
