On Oct 28, the White House issued a Section 232 proclamation finding that imports of robots, industrial machinery and parts threaten U.S. national security, but stopped short of immediate tariffs, instead directing Commerce and the U.S. Trade Representative to negotiate with trading partners and report within 180 days; tariffs or quotas could follow if deals fail. The move bears on Chinese exporters of industrial robots, machine tools and key components, who are advised to map HS codes and supply-chain exposure and prepare for possible country-of-origin and quota scenarios during the negotiation window. It lands as global robot and automation demand keeps climbing.
