QingTao-SAIC Solid-State Battery Phase-1 Base Begins Production With 10 GWh Capacity
On October 21 the first phase of QingTao Power's solid-state power-battery project began production in Kunshan, Jiangsu. The project is a joint venture between SAIC Motor's Huayu Automotive Systems and QingTao (Kunshan) Energy Development Group, with total investment of 8 billion yuan; phase one builds a 10 GWh solid-state battery production base mainly to meet SAIC's NEV battery demand. Solid-state technology developed by SAIC and QingTao has already been applied in a mass-produced model. The move marks one of China's first solid-state battery lines to enter production at scale and reinforces the industry's 2027 timeline for bringing higher-energy-density, safer batteries to market as automakers race to break the cost and range limits of liquid lithium-ion cells.
