BYD's Wang Chuanfu Wins 2026 Rao Bin Award, Declares 'China's New Energy Can'
At the SAE annual meeting in Suzhou (Oct 27-30), BYD chairman and president Wang Chuanfu received the 2026 Rao Bin Award, named after pioneer automaker Rao Bin and honoring outstanding contributors to China's auto industry. In his acceptance speech, Wang said he wanted "to prove a point, that China's new energy can, that Chinese autos can," recalling BYD's path from batteries to cars, halting fuel-car production in 2022 and selling about 4.6 million NEVs in 2025 for a fourth straight year as global No.1. The meeting, held as MIIT and three other ministries floated tighter innovation and testing rules, also debuted more than 40 outcomes including the 2027 top-ten auto technology trends and an AI Car powertrain intelligence white paper.
